Options

There are several ways to use this dictionary. The most common way is by word input (you must know which language the word is in) but you can also use your browser's search box (see the tables below) and bookmarklets (or favelets).
There are two Japanese-English dictionaries and one contains Kanji and Kana (Kana in English pair due to improved searching). For the same reason the Chinese dictionary contains traditional and simplified Chinese terms on one side and Pinyin and English terms on the other.

Mobile version

There is version of EUdict optimized for mobile devices like iPhone and other smartphones (phone that runs complete operating system, e.g. Symbian, Blackberry, Windows Mobile, Android, Palm webOS...). You can find Mobile EUdict at m.eudict.com.
Also, there is still available a WAP version of the dictionary intended to be used on (older) mobile phones (URL: http://www.eudict.com/wap/index.wml). This version differs from web version because it searches only for the exact word entered and not for phrases or similar terms. Translation from one to mulitple languages is not supported in the WAP version.

Browser integration

Perhaps the best way to enable dictionary search is through integration into the search field of your browser. To add EUdict alongside Google, Yahoo!, Amazon and other search engines in Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer 7+, simply click on link below with appropriate language pair and confirm your decision. And you're ready to go; select EUdict from the drop-down list (on the right side of navigation tool-bar) input a word and press Enter.

In Opera things are little more complicated. To add a search, select the desired language pair from the drop-down at the top of this page (e.g. "English=>Croatian"), then right-click (Ctrl-Click on Mac) in the text search field next to the drop-down and select "Create Search" from the menu. Enter a name for your search (e.g. "English=>Croatian [EUdict.com]") and a keyword (e.g. "engcro"), then click OK. After integration, Opera offers more ways of searching. You can input a word into the toolbar's search field, you can search just with the mouse by double-clicking a word and selecting the menu option "Search With", or just with the keyboard, by typing "engcro SEARCH TERM" into the address bar.

Bookmarklets

To enable word translation from any page, use bookmarklets.
A bookmarklet is a small JavaScript script stored as a bookmark in you browser.

How to create a bookmarklet

If you are using Internet Explorer drag any of the following links (choose the desired language pairs) into your Favorites. If your Favorites are not visible on the left side of your browser, go to View->Explorer Bar->Favorites. Users of Mozilla Firefox need to drag the link onto their Bookmarks Toolbar (View->Toolbars->Bookmarks Toolbars) and Opera users onto their Personal Bar (View->Toolbars->Personal bar).

How to use bookmarklets

Double click on word to select it. Then, single-click the button (Firefox, Opera) or link (IE) of the corresponding language pair to translate the word in the same window. If you forget to select a word, a text input field will be displayed. See this screenshot of bookmarklets in Firefox.

Tips and tricks

If you want to type a character which isn't on your keyboard, simply select it from the drop-down list. For this option – and also bookmarklets – to work, JavaScript must be enabled in your browser. For quick access to the language pairs list press Shift + Esc. For quick access to text input field press Alt + I (in Internet Explorer and Firefox 1.x), Alt + Shift + I (in Firefox 2 and 3) and Shift + Esc + I (in Opera). If you are unable to add a bookmarklet in Mozilla Firefox according to the instructions above, there is another way; right click on a link and select "Bookmark this link...". Now you can drag this link from Bookmarks to the Bookmarks Toolbar.
About English=>All, Croatian=>All and German=>All translation: this kind of search is fast but cannot find words shorter than 4 letters and certain other words. If no results are returned, search again after choosing with relevant language pair. In this mode (also if no word is submitted) an alphabetical list will choose a random word from English-Croatian dictionary. Why not add a EUdict search form to your web site? Webmasters, feel free to use the following HTML code.

Tips and tricks

Although EUdict can't translate complete sentences, it can translate several words at once if you separate them with spaces or commas.
